About Paranormal Mystery Books

“It’s amazing how death can really screw up your life.”

That became the motto for the entire series and is the first sentence in the first book.

The series itself had been floating around in my brain for several years, however it was during the days before self-publishing and I didn't have the self-esteem to brave rounds of rejection from publishers. I knew that publishing houses only accepted books they were sure were going to sell - either from already well known authors or people who were already famous (actors, musicians, etc). But the concept of a paranormal investigtor who solves mysteries was something that intriguied me.

The Twilight phenomenon in pop culture gave way to many, many, many paranormal romances, but I'm not a big romance reader. I also was very tired of vampires, sparkly or otherwise. And zombies are already well-covered. So my reaction to this was "Why not have a ghost story, and use real locations with their ghosts written into the story?"

Thus the format for all the potential books in the series was born. Shannon MacIntyre, a successful investigative journalist, recovers from a massive heart attack to find she can actually see and speak to ghosts. As a person who has dealt with facts all during her career, she has a hard time accepting this new aspect of her life and constantly questions her sanity.

With the help of a cat named Styx (because all mystery books MUST have a cat, it's an unwritten law), Shannon tries out her new abilities at the haunted Whaley House in San Diego, California. The choice of the Whaley House was two-fold; one, it is in San Diego where I live so it was easy to visit and two, it has been ranked as one of the most haunted locations in the nation.

Upcoming mysteries will take place all over the US, including the Queen Mary in Long Beach, the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, and Loretta Lynn’s Haunted Plantation in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. I love to travel, so researching the books allows me to visit places I've never seen. It's definitely a win-win situation.

With the abundance of haunted locations, Shannon and Styx are sure to be very busy in the future. I hope you will join me for the ride.
